I never thought in a million years I’d be doing CrossFit. I started in 2013 when I was 45. I’ve met so many amazing people and made life long friends! I was just starting to get back into the actual gym after taking (too much) time off due to an injury, but then covid hit and everything was shut down for a while. When it started back up, class sizes were limited so virtual classes were the perfect way to get back into it.
My only barrier to get started with virtual CrossFit was not having much for equipment. Luckily, that isn’t as much of an issue as I thought it would be, as the coach always can adjust to what you have. I had a spare room I didn’t use much, so I converted it into my dedicated gym space (now I have no excuses). I do miss barbell work, but I’ll slowly build on what I’ve got.
One of my favourite things about virtual classes is the coach! I started out with having Jason and Val as dedicated coaches when I was going to the gym and they are the whole reason I’m still doing CrossFit 8 years later. It’s also nice to see new, and familiar, faces! You still get to feel like you’re part of a great community, even though it’s on a smaller scale. Oh and its a bonus that I don’t have to leave my house when it’s -40 ;).
