Amie & Cullen Wilhelm

At CrossFit CL (150), two names stand out among the crowd – Cullen and Amie Willhelm. Together, they represent the epitome of dedication, resilience, and the true spirit of community.

Cullen's CrossFit Journey: Around 2020, Cullen was the first to step into CFCL. After a seven-year hiatus from the sport, he found himself drawn back by the allure of intense workouts and a supportive community. With encouragement from Amie and the guidance of Coach Jason, Cullen fully embraced his return CrossFit journey, and hasn't looked back since. From Olympic lifts to gymnastics, Cullen thrives on the challenge of pushing himself to new heights, always driven by his inner competitive spirit - now competing against himself.

Favorite Pastime and Passion: When he's not crushing workouts, Cullen enjoys many hobbies - including convincing Amie to come to the gym (but more on that later). From coaching his boys in baseball, hockey, and flag football to imparting his love for snowboarding, Cullen is a devoted family man. And let's not forget his passion for rugby – a sport that has been reignited by return to CrossFit. At 38, Cullen's fitness from CrossFit propelled him to one of his best seasons as a member of the Saskatoon Badgers (City Camps), proving that age is just a number when you're fueled by passion and determination.

Amie's CrossFit Adventure: In 2021, Amie finally gave into Cullen's "badger"ing and joined CFCL - ”he was right…”, (and Jason…. he was also right). However, her journey wasn't without its challenges. Battling the aftermath of a severe concussion (TBI), exercise became more than just a routine for Amie – it became a lifeline. Amie started out small - even having to wear sunglasses at the gym - and with Jason’s coaching support, the exercise actually started helping her TBI symptoms and she was soon addicted to CrossFit and its community. Soon, what began as a personal journey evolved into a family affair, with Amie, Cullen, and their kids (Kevin and Morgan) now enjoying the gym all together. For Amie, CrossFit isn't just about physical fitness; it's about reclaiming her health and embracing life with newfound vigor. "I have never felt healthier!"

Favorite Pastime and Passion: Outside of the gym, you'll often find Amie indulging in her favorite hobby – binge-watching the latest Netflix series alongside her beloved pugs, Millie and Nelson. Now that I am a teacher, Amie channels her passion and past career experience in hairstyling into fun sessions with friends and family. But beyond her personal pursuits, Amie dedicates her free time to a cause close to her heart – supporting the Empty Arms charity in memory of her son Beckham, who they lost in their third trimester. Through her tireless efforts, Amie strives to raise awareness and funds, embodying the spirit of giving back to her community.

Making Memories Together: Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, the Willhelm family finds solace in the serene beauty of Candle Lake. Whether it's bonding over outdoor adventures or creating cherished memories by the water, Cullen, Amie, and their kids treasure every moment spent together as a family.

We are so happy that Cullen and Amie have expanded their family to include CFCL. They are an inspiration to us all - pillars of strength and shining examples of what it means to embrace the CrossFit lifestyle with open arms and open hearts. Thank you for being a part of our community and showing us what resilience truly looks like.
