COVID Public Health Orders
As of September 17th, CrossFit OneFifty has been following the renewed public indoor masking mandate. On October 1st, all members (that are eligible for vaccination) will be required to provide proof of vaccination. More details on how we will be collecting this information will be available in the coming days.
With regard to masking within our facility, we are expecting all members who are eligible for the vaccine to be masked at all times, with the option to remove their mask immediately before the start of conditioning work (during MetCon). This keeps in line with the following statements from the public health orders dated September 16th:
“WHEREAS:
L: …the risk of temporarily removing the face covering is low or manageable”
“Section 4: (c) Face coverings are not required for the following individuals:
…(ix) Individuals 18 years of age and older while participating in athletic or sports activities, for the duration of the sport or activity only, so long as they are subject to a proof of vaccination policy”
I know this is not an easy time for anyone. I believe that we all should be getting vaccinated, not because actions have been taken by the government to push people to do so, but rather because it is an effective tool against a potentially deadly illness. I also understand/am aware of the fact that some members are not willing to take risks associated with vaccinations, especially with the pressure that is being applied. Even though I understand and sympathize with your choice to have control in your own lives, I have faith in what our public health officials are trying to do here but I believe that the only way to beat this is through understanding each other, sympathizing, and not putting up barriers. Rather, we should all want to be healthy and to help others be healthy as well if we can; for the health-care workers, other first line workers, those that are unable to be vaccinated, and those that are at a greater risk of serious illness from COVID.
We all have a portion of our lives and energy that is affected by the public health orders and what they mean. As a business owner, I have been given an opportunity to make challenging decisions, ones that have helped me question my values and beliefs. I know this changes things for some members and I understand if you are no longer able to continue with your membership. I hope that you are able to continue keeping exercise and healthy social connection in your life, if you are willing/able to exercise at home then I am happy to lend equipment out to members and offer additional virtual times if there is the demand for it.
For any members that currently still have equipment at home, if you are not using it please bring it back so that we can keep our brethren equipped and able to exercise if they are no longer able to join us in our space. I ask that all members consider the perspectives of all of our community members and be respectful of each other’s choices. This is as divisive of a time as any and we can quickly lose sight of the person that is in front of us. Again, I ask that we treat each other as people and not judge anyone for anything, especially for something they truly believe in.
Sincerely,
Jason
