MEMBER FEATURE: Lynne Horn
The Strength to Start—and Keep Going
From the very first "bring-a-friend" CrossFit class with her daughters, Lynne Horn felt something different. It wasn’t just the workout—it was the welcoming energy, the sense of community, and the idea that this space was for everyone, regardless of age, size, or experience. That initial sense of inclusion stuck with her.
Today, Lynne is a proud and consistent part of our CFCL virtual crew, tuning in early most mornings from the comfort of home. And while her journey didn’t start with lofty goals, her progress speaks volumes.
“I just wanted to get moving again,” she says. “I wanted to build a bit more core strength so I could move with ease—simple things, like standing on one leg to put my pants on.”
Now, three years in, Lynne moves with more strength, flexibility, and confidence. And yes—she can stand on one leg to put her pants on. :)
Building Strength, One Step at a Time
Lynne’s CrossFit story isn’t about chasing big numbers or podium finishes. It’s about showing up—consistently and wholeheartedly. She’s quick to acknowledge the things that challenged her—lunges, flexibility, even getting comfortable with heavier weights—but she’s never shied away from doing the work.
“I never thought I’d need heavier weights—but here I am, getting stronger and realizing it’s time to buy some. It’s a good problem to have!”
Rowing is her favorite movement (so much so that she bought her own rower), and her go-to WOD would definitely include it—along with push-ups, skipping, and just the right amount of rest in between.
Finding Worth in the Everyday
What’s kept her going, even through tough days and occasional illness, is the support she feels from the people on the other side of the screen.
“It’s seeing people in the morning and knowing they notice—and miss—you when you’re not there,” she says. “Val is so encouraging and makes the workouts feel achievable, not overwhelming. And the word ‘worthy’—it’s part of the password to enter the live feed, so I get to see that every day. It’s a powerful reminder.”
Lynne has also built meaningful connections through our virtual crew. “Everyone is so encouraging—especially Rosalie, who’s always there with motivation and support.” These shared moments, even over a screen, create a sense of belonging that keeps her coming back.
The Five Factors—Eat, Sleep, Move, Think, Connect—have become part of her daily life. She’s more mindful of her choices, more motivated to stay consistent, and more aware of how everything is connected.
Life Beyond the Screen
Outside of CrossFit, Lynne leads an active and full life. She’s been married for 42 years, is a proud mom of three daughters, and has five grandchildren who keep her on her toes. After 17 years in hospitality at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, she recently embraced a new challenge, taking on a role as a Facilities Administrator—a change she’s found both rewarding and energizing.
When she’s not working or training, Lynne loves spending time outdoors and says yes to just about any kind of adventure. From hiking to camping—whether it’s pitching a tent or enjoying a cozier setup—she’s always been someone who’s up for whatever comes next. “I’m good with whatever!” she laughs.
Looking Ahead
These days, Lynne’s goals include improving her lunges, getting lower in her burpees, and stepping up to bigger challenges—literally, with higher step-ups! But more than anything, she’s just excited to see how much stronger and more flexible she can become.
“CrossFit has made me realize I’m capable of more than I ever thought possible. I’ve also come to understand that I matter—and so do my fitness and health.”
Love that realization, Lynne! You are such a joy to have in our virtual crew—we love seeing your face (almost) every morning. 😊
