Rescue Relay (for the Saskatoon SPCA)

We're excited to announce our upcoming combined fitness and fur-friends fundraising event in support of the Saskatoon SPCA on Saturday, May 11!

Gather your up to teams of up to 4 people and share the effort to walk, jog, or run a approx 1 km course as many times as possible in 60 minutes. The SPCA may provide some furry companions for you to accompany on your laps, or you're welcome to bring your own furry friend (please ensure all pets are contained and under control at all times for everyone's safety).

WHAT TO EXPECT

12:15pm Team Check-ins (and photos)

12:45pm Course walk & warm-up

1:00pm Race Begins

2:00pm Race Ends

2:15pm Thank you & Prizes

There will also be some added fun with a pet and person photo booth! The lovely Nicole Hills will be there to take professional photos of your pet and/or both of you together for a lovely keepsake for the event. This is free for participants but we will gladly accept cash donations, which will go directly to the Saskatoon SPCA.

We also will have a Hot Dog stand & Refreshment throughout the event. Thank you to the Clapson family for donating their time and cart, and taking care of all these details for us! They will be selling the following, and will donate a portion of the funds to the SPCA as well!

  • All Beef Hotdogs (ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, banana peppers, sauerkraut)

  • Various drinks (pop, water, Gatorade)

  • Chips

  • Protein bars

Registration deadline is end of day Wed May 8!

Each participant will receive a registration package that includes a Rescue Relay drawstring bag, Rescue Relay bandana, CrossFit CL goodies and more! Thank you Impact Marketing & Cents of Balance Bookkeeping for making these packages possible.

You can register as a team (up to 4 people). If you are registering as a team, have one person complete registration and add each team member as a “guest” during registration. If you forget or want to add another team member, simply have them register themselves and send an email to val@crossfitonefifty.com to confirm team members.

Registration fees are $40/person and 50% of that goes to the Saskatoon SPCA, as well as all extra money raised by teams and photo booth. Upon completion of registration, each team/participant will be sent a pledge form to do some more fundraising if they wish.

PRIZES will be awarded for best-dressed teams, most distance covered, and highest amount of money raised/pledged. Thank you to April Rose Artistry for donating towards these prize packages!

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Is the course suitable for kids? YES! This event is for all ages and skill levels. The approx 1km loop leaves from and returns to the gym, with mutiple volunteers directing and cheering along the way.

  • Do team members run one at a time or seperate? It is really up to you. A regular relay has one person running at a time but we are all out here to have fun, so if you would prefer to move as a group (or partial group) that is wonderful! We will have a “baton” for team members to pass from one person to the next.

  • Can I bring my pet? Yes! This is a fur-friendly event and all pets are welcome! The SPCA will also have some adoptables at the event too. We just ask that all pets be kept on a lead :)

We are still seeking SPONSORS for this event. Donations towards registration bags (up to 100), prizes (up to 12 packages), and more are greatly appreciated. If you or your business are interested, please email val@crossfitonefifty.com.

Thank you to our current sponsors:

Additionally, we're still in need of VOLUNTEERS for various roles such as setup/takedown, team check-in/recording, and course assistance. Your help on the day would be invaluable. If you're available to volunteer, please reach out to val@crossfitonefifty.com.

Blue Pants Wednesday

Blue Pants Wednesday

Whether you’re a 6am OG or you’ve only ever known the 5:45am class, you may have been caught participating in a lesser known tradition. What started as unintentional twinsies between Kristene Johnson and Shauna Wilkinson, transformed into the weekly practice known as “Blue Pants Wednesday” - a practice we want to highlight today.

Lastly year our community was devastated with the news of Kristene Johnson’s passing. For those fortunate enough to have known her, she was present at our very first class at StrongFit YXE in September of 2016, and was there on the last day at that location. Kristene was dedicated to her gym routine and attended her last class with us in April of 2022.

This Wednesday February 7th, we will be doing a special memorial workout to honour Kristene, as well as to honour others we have lost in our community (Margaret Hucul and Krista Hamstra just to name a couple) . We hope that this Blue Pants Wednesday WOD will help us remember the wonderful people they all were and to take a moment to appreciate the amazing people all around us.
