Olympic Weightlifting Weekends are here!

It is with GREAT excitement that we bring to you, the start of the Kilostalk Weightlifting Club (KWC)!

This Club exists based on the number of competitive athletes from within our gym that are competing in the sport, and now there will be times for everyone to hone their skills. Our weekend KWC hours can be found HERE and are led by Dawn, Valarie, and Jason, whom have a combined total of 7 Canadian Weightlifting Nationals appearances, and currently hold four Provincial Records. Not only are these coaches active in competing, but they have actively been coaching Weightlifting since as early as 2010.

Here's how it'll work:

  • The club meets on an irregular schedule, meaning it will not have classes for every Saturday and Sunday, but for most. Please refer to the link above for specific dates.

  • When applicable, the club will meet on Saturdays at 11:00am and run until 1pm, on Sundays from 1:30pm until 3:30pm.

  • Coaches will be leading classes with skill/drill work while they are coaching, and they will be lifting along with the group.

  • Saturdays are "Mock-Meet" days, meaning we will very loosely follow the rules of competition:

    • Warm-up with an opening number in mind

    • Have three "attempts" in each the Snatch and Clean and Jerk

    • Coaches will act as officials and clarify any red lights/missed attempts

  • Sundays are "Technical" days, working on speed, position, and gaining a better understanding of what we each need to focus on to improve our lifts.

  • These classes are part of the StrongFit YXE membership - you can apply your unlimited membership or drop-ins to these two hour sessions as though they are regular group classes.

  • Singlets are not mandatory but if you plan on hitting a competition platform one day, they should be practiced in. Plus they're fun to lift in from time to time.

  • Our weekly program will continue to consist of 2-3 Weightlifting days, along with the option for the Strength/Structural Balance Stream. Please rest according to what you choose to do as we now offer seven days a week of classes - listen to your bodies before they start breaking down.

  • If coaches notice you may be overdoing it, they may as you to take an active recovery day to row, bike, or just stretch. This is for your safety and longevity in exercise, please do not take it as us stifling your goals.

I apologize for the lengthy post but this is an exciting direction for us to head in. We did not expect to be able to add to the schedule as early as this, but based on feedback, we felt that these classes would be of benefit to both the members and the club. By adding coached Weightlifting hours to the schedule, we are working towards our goal of added value at no additional cost to the members. Member support is what drives us to continue this type of growth, and we thank you for giving us this opportunity.

Sincerely,

Your StrongFit YXE Team.
