The Kilostalk Weightlifting Club at Westerns

This past weekend, Saskatoon hosted the 2017 Western Canadian Weightlifting Championships, where we saw four of our own SFYXE athletes compete to represent Team Saskatchewan.

In the first session, Coach Tron attempted 95x/95/100, 128x/128/135, 235 - finishing 2nd in the 69kg class which qualified him for his sixth consecutive Canadian Senior Nationals in La Prairie, QC in May.

In the third session, Abra Thompson went 66/69/72, 95/99x/99x, 167 - finishing 2nd in the 69kg class. Abra was in a tough session as there were many women calling for the same weights, which can make preparing for competition attempts very challenging. Abra has had an amazing season so far, and will have another chance at Senior Nationals to keep raising the bar.

In the fourth session, Steve Benoit competed at his first ever Western Championships. In the 77kg class, he went 99x/102x/102x, 120/124x/124x, but due to a slight press-out with his first snatch he was not able to total. Steven did a great job in maintaining composure and enjoying the rest of the competition. I can guarantee this will only make him a better lifter and I look forward to seeing what he can do at Westerns next year.

Chris Callahan lifted in the 85kg class in the same session, going 100/106/110x, 130/135/140, 246 - finishing with a lifetime PR in the clean and jerk and a competition PR in the total. Chris has steadily seen improvement throughout the season and following this meet, was determined to keep working towards bigger lifts next year.

There will be one more meet to conclude the season; Pure Athletics will be hosting an out-of-season meet in PA on April 15th. I hope to see many of you there to cap off an amazing season!
