Kilostalk Weightlifting Club at the Titan Open

This past Saturday the KWC was at CrossFit Regina to attend their annual Titan Open Weightlifting Meet. We had a total of 7 athletes from our club take part in the competition, three of whom enjoyed their first ever meet.

Brittany Neumeier led things off for us, going 35-42-45/47X-47-51X/92, matching her PR snatch and although was not able to get majority decision on all of her jerks, she was able to get a total in for her first meet, in addition to placing second in her weight class. Brittany has come a long way in her overhead position and her dedication to the program shows with her steady progress. With some focused shoulder mobility and overhead work, Brittany will be adding 10+kg to her total at her next meet. Great job Brittany!

Heather Donahue followed up with a great performance of her own, going 37-45-48/55-60X-60X/103 to set competition PRs in the snatch, clean & jerk, and total. Slowly but surely, we are progressing through the lifts and bumping our competition lifts to match our training numbers. Looking good Heather, I'm excited to see you put it all together at our next meet.

In the first men's session, Steve Benoit  went 98-101-104X/119X-119-125 to hit competition PRs in the snatch, clean & jerk, and the total - at his lightest bodyweight to date. Steve has been very consistent in his diet and training, so it is very rewarding for him to do what he is capable of on the competition platform. His progress has not always been indicated by his competition totals, but his confidence showed on this day and he was able to execute beautifully. Congrats Steve, your performance was well deserved.

Jason lifted in the same session, going 105X-105-108/137X-137-145/245. He was able to match his lifetime PR snatch and cleaned his lifetime PR but did not have the jerk in him. With one final opportunity to qualify for Nationals coming in March, this meet was good to know the focus points of training have been effective and so will remain the focus until Westerns.

Kade Liska lifted in the same session as well for his first ever meet, where he went 72-76-80X/93-97X-97X/169. Kade's progress has been quick and steady with much more room to go. Following his final lift, he was all ready and excited to sign up for his next meet. I'm looking forward to your progress over the coming months and years as you climb the ranks in the sport.

Chris Callahan joined the heavyweight session as an 85kg lifter, going 102-106-110X/132-136X-136X/238 for a competition snatch PR and competition total PR. Chris took attempts at lifetime PRs and we both feel confident that he will be opening at higher attempts at the next meet.

James Gordon brought it home for the KWC at his first ever Weightlifting meet, going 102-108-111X/128-133X-133X/236. James' progress has been very steady and we will see some big numbers from this gentle giant in the very near future.

Randy Hills made his debut as a KWC Club Coach, after taking the NCCP Introduction to Competition Course. We are very grateful to him for taking the trip to Regina, he did a fantastic job in keeping the athletes on track for their lifts and keeping morale high in the athlete area, something that's not easy to do for experienced lifters let alone with multiple new lifters. Thank you for your continued dedication to our club and for maintaining your professionalism when faced with trolling pressure to do otherwise.

We will soon find out the Saskatchewan Team for Western Canadians, to be held in Saskatoon on March 25th. We will all be training to peak for this meet, with a large focus on developing power and stability in all lifts while maintaining strength.
